There is a study out there that is accepted by most people in the transportation industry that says 1 in 7 people on the road don’t have insurance. None. Zip. Nada.

So what do you do when they get in an accident with you? How do you get money for your injuries, for your damaged car, for the money you’ve got to pay your insurance company through no fault of your own?

Use Your PIP Protection

There is an add-on you can ask your insurance company to give you when you sign up for car insurance called personal injury protection, or PIP, for short. What PIP does is provide you with money for your medical bills, hospital bills, and funeral expenses up to your policy limits if the driver that injures you has no insurance.

This is obviously great because you’re not stuck with a bunch of legal bills. It isn’t great because it doesn’t give you money for a lot of stuff you would otherwise be able to get from the driver’s insurance company.

Us Your UM/UI Protection

There’s another insurance policy you can get called uninsured motorist or underinsured motorist protection. What this will do is give you money for your out of pocket expenses for your claim.

This type of insurance will cover your deductible and any other claims you have to pay out of pocket (aren’t covered by your insurance).

Collision Coverage

As the name suggests here, this add-on to your insurance policy pays you for any damage to your car that you might have. Of course, this coverage only works for damages above your deductible. If your car gets totaled this would be good coverage to have.

But You Still Have to Fight

I wish it were easier to deal with your own insurance company, but it’s not. When you have uninsured motorist issues, you’re now trying to take money out of their pockets, so their defenses go up. To make sure you get what you deserve, you need to get help. You need a Seattle personal injury attorney that will fight for you. You need us.
